Journal 3 - Ch. 5-8

For this week's reading, the one thing that intrigued me the most was Geoffroy Tory's alphabet creation from Champ Fleury, from 1529. As an aspiring graphic designer, one of my favorite things about design is typography and the ability to create letters out of imagery.

Looking at Tory's use of tools to create each letter shows his immense imagination and displays his eye for craftsmanship. The way the B utilizes the fusy to imitate the curvature of the letter captures the sequence perfectly. By looking at the rest of the letters in this set, as an aspiring graphic designer, Tory's work has given me a new perspective on the use of typography and showed me there are endless ways of creating a new font for an alphabet.
